We acted for a client (now aged 42) who was involved in a serious road traffic accident during November 2012. He was driving on the road close to his home in Cheltenham when he was struck head-on by another car, which was travelling in the wrong lane around a bend. The other driver was subsequently charged by the Police with ‘driving without due care and attention’ although at no time did his insurers admit liability.

Our client sustained multiple injuries, including fractures to all four limbs (right leg, right elbow, left arm and left ankle) together with an injury to his bowel requiring a laparotomy and bowel re-section. In addition, he suffered from an adjustment disorder with symptoms of anxiety and depression.

We obtained medical reports from doctors in three different medical disciplines. Our client underwent eight separate operations and although he continued to have residual symptoms, the prognosis was encouraging in that he should make a near complete recovery in the long term. His job was not at risk and he only suffered a minimal loss of earnings.

The solicitors acting for the other drivers insurers indicated they would like to settle his claim without the need for litigation a settlement was eventually agreed.

S J Edney solicitors obtained compensation of £150,000 for this client during 2014
